The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has been working tirelessly for six days to ensure the safety of the MV Maersk Frankfurt and its crew, as well as to prevent marine pollution. Despite challenging weather conditions, the ICG has maintained its operations to tackle a serious situation onboard the vessel.
The MV Maersk Frankfurt is currently located in the Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast. The ship has been dealing with sporadic fires in some of its smoldering containers. These fires have been difficult to manage due to their unpredictable nature and the challenging sea conditions.
To combat the flames, the ICG has deployed an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH). This helicopter has airdropped 200 kilograms of dry chemical powder directly onto the fires. This method has been effective in reducing the intensity of the flames and controlling the situation.
The efforts to extinguish the fires are being supported by the ship’s owners, who are coordinating with the ICG. This combined response aims to manage the fires more efficiently and reduce any further risks to the vessel.

The Coast Guard’s ongoing operations highlight their dedication to addressing emergencies at sea and protecting both the vessel and the marine ecosystem.
