The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the re-revised results and ranks for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2024 on Friday. According to these updated results, a total of 13,15,853 candidates have successfully qualified for the exam.
Notably, the number of candidates securing the All India Rank (AIR) 1 has been adjusted to 17, down from the previously reported 67.
This year, over 24 lakh students participated in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, which took place on May 5, 2024. The exam was held at 4,750 centers located across 571 cities in India and also included 14 international cities. The examination took place from 2 pm to 5:20 pm.
In an official statement, the NTA clarified that a re-examination was conducted on June 23, 2024, for 1,563 candidates who faced time loss during the original exam on May 5. The re-revised results were released following a Supreme Court decision on July 23, which ruled against canceling the NEET-UG 2024 exam held in May.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, concluded that there was no systemic breach in the exam. The court noted the lack of evidence to suggest that the exam results were compromised or that there was a widespread leak of the question paper.
However, the court did acknowledge that there had been instances of the question paper leak in Hazaribagh and Patna. The investigation, conducted by a central agency, revealed that 155 students from these exam centers appeared to benefit from the fraud. The probe is still ongoing and has not yet reached a conclusion.

The Supreme Court also emphasized that ordering a fresh NEET-UG exam for the current year would have serious consequences for over 23 lakh students who took the exam. It warned that such a move could disrupt the academic schedule and have a cascading effect in the coming years.
The bench stressed the importance of providing certainty and finality to the dispute to avoid affecting the careers of over 2 million students.
In light of these considerations, the court decided against a re-examination, allowing the NTA to release the re-revised results and move forward with the admission process for the qualified candidates.
