In response to an increase in terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, the central government has directed the deployment of over 2,000 personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) to bolster security along the India-Pakistan border. These troops will be moved from Odisha, specifically from Malkangiri, to strengthen security measures in the region.
Initially, two battalions of the BSF will be stationed in the districts of Reasi, Kishtwar, and Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir. In the coming days, two additional battalions, also totaling over 2,000 soldiers, will be sent to other parts of Jammu. This large-scale deployment aims to enhance the security framework in the region, which has seen a recent surge in terrorist activities.
The heightened security measures come in the wake of a recent attack on Saturday where one soldier was killed and four others were injured.
The Army successfully thwarted an assault by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district. The BAT is a unit comprising both Pakistani commandos and terrorists. The confrontation began in the Kamkari area after intelligence reports indicated potential terrorist movements.
This encounter in Kamkari was the second in just three days. On July 24, security forces had already engaged in a fierce battle with terrorists in Kupwara’s Lolab area, resulting in the neutralization of an unidentified terrorist and the death of one soldier.

Sources have reported that around 40 to 50 Pakistani terrorists are currently hiding in the mountainous regions of Jammu. In response, security forces have launched extensive counter-terrorism operations. These terrorists are reportedly well-trained and equipped with advanced weaponry, including American-made M4 Carbine Rifles with night vision capabilities and Chinese steel-coated bullets that can penetrate bullet-proof vehicles.
Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, stated in the Rajya Sabha that in recent days, 28 terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir, with some security personnel also losing their lives. He emphasized that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government maintains a “zero tolerance” policy towards terrorism, underscoring the administration’s commitment to combating terrorism in the region.
