In a significant administrative reshuffle, President Droupadi Murmu has appointed six new governors and reassigned three others, as per a communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday night. These appointments will take effect once the appointees assume charge of their respective offices.
Lakshman Prasad Acharya, previously the Governor of Sikkim, has been appointed as the Governor of Assam with additional charge of Manipur, replacing Anusuiya Uikye. Gulab Chand Kataria will succeed Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh. Veteran BJP leader Om Prakash Mathur has been named the new Governor of Sikkim.
C P Radhakrishnan, the current Governor of Jharkhand, will take over as the Governor of Maharashtra, succeeding Ramesh Bais. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, former Union Labour and Employment Minister, will become the new Governor of Jharkhand. Jishnu Dev Varma, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, has been appointed as the new Governor of Telangana.
In addition, K Kailashnathan, a trusted aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former chief principal secretary to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, a senior BJP leader from Maharashtra, will succeed Kalraj Mishra as the Governor of Rajasthan.
