The force of his vehicle reportedly broke the gate of the coaching centre, which allowed rainwater to gush into the basement, exacerbating the flooding.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), M Harshvardhan, explained that the driver has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This charge is related to the driver’s negligence, which contributed to the tragic deaths. The police were able to identify and apprehend the driver using CCTV footage and social media videos that showed the SUV damaging the gate.
In total, seven people have been arrested in connection with the incident. This includes the owner of Rau’s IAS Study Centre, Abhishek Gupta, and five others involved in the operation of the building where the coaching centre was located. The arrested individuals face charges that include culpable homicide, among other serious allegations.
The victims of this tragic incident were Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nevin Dalwin from Kerala. Their deaths have shocked many, and the community is mourning their loss.
The police investigation revealed that the damaged gate allowed an increased flow of rainwater into the basement, which led to the fatal flooding. The incident has raised serious concerns about safety and negligence, leading to ongoing legal proceedings against those involved.
The community and the families of the victims are calling for justice and accountability to ensure such tragedies do not occur in the future.
