Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has arrived in India for a three-day state visit at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Accompanied by a high-level delegation including several ministers, deputy ministers, and business leaders, PM Chinh aims to strengthen the historical and strategic ties between the two nations. His visit will conclude on August 1, according to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
On his arrival, PM Chinh will receive a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan. He is also scheduled to visit Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, a significant gesture highlighting the shared values of peace and non-violence between India and Vietnam.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister will hold bilateral discussions with PM Modi to discuss various aspects of the India-Vietnam relationship. These discussions are expected to cover areas of mutual interest, including trade, defense cooperation, and regional security. Following the talks, PM Modi will host a luncheon in honor of PM Chinh.
During his visit, PM Chinh is also scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Additionally, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will call on the visiting Prime Minister, further emphasizing the importance India places on its relationship with Vietnam.
This visit follows recent diplomatic activities between the two nations. Last week, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid their respects to the late General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, during separate ceremonies marking his state funeral.
NSA Doval represented India at the funeral in Hanoi, while Defence Minister Singh visited the Vietnam Embassy in India to express condolences on behalf of the Indian government and people.

India and Vietnam share age-old historical and civilizational ties, which were elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership during PM Modi’s visit to Vietnam in September 2016. India considers Vietnam a key pillar of its Act East Policy and an important partner in its Indo-Pacific vision. This visit by PM Chinh is expected to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The visit of the Vietnamese Prime Minister underscores the significance both nations place on their bilateral relationship and their commitment to working together for regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
