On July 31, 2024, two groundbreaking healthcare technologies were officially transferred to the industry at a special event hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. This transfer is part of a project funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), known as the Nanoelectronics Network for Research and Applications (NNetRA).
The first technology, called “DNA Aptamer for Prostate Cancer Detection,” was handed over to Dr. Swapnil Sinha of HUMMSA Biotech Pvt. Ltd., based in Kolkata. This innovative technology, developed by Professor Prashant Mishra and his team at IIT Delhi, is designed to detect prostate cancer.
It works by binding to specific oncogenes, which are genes associated with cancer. This method could significantly improve both the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, offering new possibilities in cancer care.
The second technology, “Photonic Chip based Spectrometric Biosensor,” was transferred to Mr. Nitin Zaveri of UNINO Healthcare Private Limited, located in Mumbai. Created by Professor Joby Joseph and his team at IIT Delhi, this biosensor aims to detect pathogens quickly and accurately. This technology could play a crucial role in preventing infectious diseases by enabling faster diagnosis and response to infections.
The technology transfer ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, who expressed his congratulations to the teams involved. He highlighted the importance of continuing technology transfer to drive innovation and sustainable development. Measures will be taken to ensure that these technologies are successfully adopted and implemented in the industry.
The event also saw the presence of other distinguished guests, including Professor Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi; Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, Additional Secretary of MeitY; Sunita Verma, Senior Director and Group Coordinator for R&D in Electronic and IT at MeitY; FITT Team members; Professor Neeraj Khare, the Chief Investigator of the project; and Dr. Sangeeta Semwal, Scientist E at MeitY.
The Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) at IIT Delhi played a key role in facilitating this technology transfer. Their efforts were instrumental in bringing these promising technologies from the research phase into practical use, marking a significant step forward in the field of healthcare technology.
