Japan’s House of Representatives Speaker, Nukaga Fukushiro, announced that Japanese companies are eager to invest in India. He emphasized the importance of promoting human resource exchanges between the two countries.
During his visit, Fukushiro highlighted the economic ties between Japan and India. He noted that increased cooperation could create employment opportunities for Indian youth and boost Japan’s economy.
Fukushiro met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the Parliament House Complex. Leading a parliamentary delegation, Fukushiro is on a five-day visit to India. He stressed the need for collaboration in technology sectors like IT, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence.
Fukushiro mentioned the strong strategic relationship between Japan and India. Both nations are robust democracies in Asia, sharing values of democracy and the rule of law. He believes that close cooperation can lead to peace and prosperity in Asia.
Om Birla spoke about the deep historical ties between India and Japan, highlighting their shared Buddhist heritage. He pointed out that many Japanese tourists visit India’s Buddhist sites, fostering mutual understanding.
Birla discussed India’s commitment to women’s empowerment, mentioning the recent passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. He also talked about India’s economic progress and the importance of the budget session in Parliament.
Birla highlighted the shared democratic values of India and Japan. He noted the massive participation in India’s recent Lok Sabha elections, with around 650 million voters. He praised the Election Commission of India for conducting free, fair, and transparent elections.
Economic Investment Opportunities
Birla expressed optimism about the investment opportunities in India, citing the strong and transparent government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was pleased with the presence of many Japanese companies in India and hoped for continued economic and technological cooperation.
Birla emphasized the importance of cooperation between the parliaments of Japan and India. He suggested regular visits of parliamentary delegations and the sharing of best practices to strengthen mutual understanding and open new avenues of cooperation.
Birla mentioned India’s efforts to integrate digital technology in Parliament, driven by the digital revolution. He highlighted India’s Parliamentary Training Institute PRIDE, which trains participants from over 100 countries.
Birla proposed creating a framework for cooperation between the Parliamentary Training Institutes of both countries. He recalled his visit to Japan for the P20 Summit in 2019, where discussions covered trade, technology, and sustainable development.
Fukushiro congratulated Birla on his re-election as Lok Sabha Speaker and thanked him for the opportunity to observe parliamentary proceedings. He also expressed condolences for the recent landslide accident in Kerala.
