The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to conduct the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) between August 21 and September 4. This exam will be held in a Computer Based Test (CBT) format. Originally, the exam was conducted on June 18 but was canceled the following day due to allegations of paper leaks.
Ten days before the rescheduled exam, the NTA will post notifications about the allocation of exam centers on their website. The previous exam, held on June 18, was conducted in a pen-and-paper format and split into two shifts.
On June 19, the Union Education Ministry announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET. This decision was based on inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics, which suggested a compromise in the integrity of the examination. The Ministry emphasized the importance of transparency and maintaining the sanctity of the examination process. To uphold these standards, a fresh examination will be conducted.
The incident was taken seriously, and the matter was referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough investigation.
In response to this decision, a plea was filed challenging the cancellation of the UGC-NET. However, the Supreme Court declined to entertain the plea last month.
The UGC-NET is an important exam held twice a year. It qualifies candidates for the Junior Research Fellowship, appointment as assistant professors and admission to PhD programs. The exam comprises two objective-type papers with multiple-choice questions, conducted back-to-back without a break.
This rescheduling aims to ensure fairness and uphold the credibility of the UGC-NET for all aspiring candidates.
