Indian archer Deepika Kumari made her way to the quarterfinals of the individual women’s archery event at the Paris Olympics. She achieved this after a tough match against Michelle Kroppen of Germany in the Round of 16 on Saturday. The match took place at the historic Les Invalides.
Deepika showed her strength right from the start, winning the first set with a score of 27-24. In the second set, she scored hits of 10, 8, and 9. However, her opponent, Michelle, was consistent and hit three consecutive 9s, resulting in a tie for that set.
In the third set, Deepika regained her momentum and secured a win, bringing the score to 5-1 in her favor. Despite this lead, she struggled with consistency in the fourth set, which she lost to Michelle. However, Deepika managed to tie the fifth set, which was enough for her to advance to the quarterfinals.
Manu Bhaker Misses Medal in Women’s 25m Pistol Event
Earlier on the same day, Indian shooter Manu Bhaker narrowly missed out on a medal in the women’s 25m pistol shooting event. Manu finished in fourth place, just shy of becoming the first Indian to win three medals at the Summer Games.
Manu’s performance was strong throughout the competition, but she was eliminated in a shoot-off against Veronika Major of Hungary. Both shooters were tied at 28 points, leading to the shoot-off. Unfortunately, Manu fell short, and Veronika went on to secure third place.
Jiin Yang from South Korea won the gold medal in this event, while Camille Jedrzejewski from France took the silver. Veronika Major finished with the bronze.
