India and Egypt share a long history of friendship and cooperation, dating back to ancient times. This partnership spans various fields, including political, regional, and global issues. Since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi took office in June 2014, diplomatic relations between the two countries have continued to thrive.
Jaishankar visited Cairo in August 2015 during Sisi’s presidency, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic engagement between the nations. President Sisi reciprocated the gesture with a State Visit to India in January 2023, further strengthening the bilateral relationship.
A commemorative stamp was issued to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Egypt, symbolizing their enduring friendship. This milestone was also celebrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s State Visit to Egypt in June 2023, where he was honored with Egypt’s highest civilian award, the “Order of the Nile.”
On July 23, Jaishankar extended warm greetings to Foreign Minister Abdelatty and the Egyptian people on their National Day. He reiterated India’s commitment to advancing their strategic partnership, reflecting the deepening ties between the two countries.
Jaishankar had previously joined a commemorative event in New Delhi with Egypt’s Ambassador to India, Wael Hamed, celebrating Egypt’s National Day. During the event, Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s dedication to strengthening the bilateral partnership.
Egypt is considered a crucial and valued strategic partner for India. Jaishankar acknowledged the recent elevation of their relationship to a strategic level, highlighted by President Sisi’s role as the Chief Guest at India’s 74th Republic Day celebrations in 2023 and Prime Minister Modi’s subsequent visit to Egypt.
The continued collaboration and mutual respect between India and Egypt demonstrate their commitment to building a robust and strategic alliance that benefits both nations.
