On Sunday morning at least nine children were killed and many others sustained injuries after a temple wall collapsed in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. The injured have been sent to hospital for receiving treatment.
All the debris has been removed from the site of the incident, said Deepak Arya, Sagar Collector. According to the media reports, the tragic incident occurred during a religious ceremony at Hardaul Baba temple in Shahpur.
Soon after the tragic incident, locals helped the police in carrying the rescue work. Visuals have emerged wherein an earthmover can be seen removing the rubble after the wall collapsed.
The incident comes a day after four children died in a wall collapse incident in Rewa district. The children, in the 5-7 years age group, were returning from school when the wall collapsed.
The owners of the house, the wall of which collapsed, have been arrested. The children from the Sunrise Public School were on their way home when the wall of the abandoned building nearby collapsed on them, Inspector-General of Police, Rewa zone, Mahendra Singh Sikarwar, told reporters on Saturday.
Ramesh Namdev and Satish Namdev, owners of the house where the wall collapsed, were arrested on Saturday night, Additional Superintendent of Police Vivek Lal told reporters.
