Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced that India will now offer a Visa-on-Arrival facility for nationals of Japan, South Korea, and the UAE. This update was given in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on Monday.
The Visa-on-Arrival will be applicable for tourism, business, conferences, and medical purposes. It allows a stay of up to 60 days with the option for double entry. In addition to the Visa-on-Arrival, the Ministry of Tourism has significantly expanded the e-Visa facility. Nationals from 167 countries can now avail of an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). This e-Visa allows entry through 30 designated international airports and six major seaports, broadening the options for international travelers to visit India with ease.
Need-Based Tourism Surveys
To ensure effective policy development, the Ministry of Tourism actively conducts need-based tourism surveys, research, and feasibility studies. These initiatives help gather crucial data, which is essential for identifying areas that need improvement and ensuring that tourism policies align with their intended objectives.
To enhance tourist safety and provide immediate assistance, 15 State Governments and Union Territory Administrations have deployed tourist police. Additionally, the Ministry has set up a 24×7 Multi-Lingual Tourist Info-Helpline, which can be reached toll-free at 1800111363 or shortcode 1363. This helpline supports both domestic and foreign tourists, offering guidance and information in 12 languages, including 10 international languages.
