While the Middle East region awaits inevitable war between Israel and Iran, the latter issued a statement noting that though Tehran is not looking to escalate regional tensions, it would “punish Israel” to prevent further instability. At the same time, a report revealed that Israel might consider launching a preemptive strike to deter Iran if it uncovered evidence that Tehran was preparing to mount an attack. Pertinently, tensions in West Asia are extremely high as of now because, after decades of using proxy militias to harass Israel, Iran set a new precedent: a direct attack on its territory would be answered in kind. Therefore, it was anticipated that Iran might strike Israel over the weekend, however, it did not. Notably, in April as well, after Israel assassinated an Iranian general in an air strike on his country’s embassy compound in Damascus, Iran responded with a salvo of over 300 missiles and drones after a gap of 2 weeks.
