On Wednesday Vinesh Phogat’s father Rajpal Phogat reacted on her daughter’s disqualification after being slightly overweight ahead of her Gold Medal match against USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt.
He said, ‘Vinesh will work harder for next time, the country is upset with Vinesh’s disqualification.’ He further added, ‘People in the Authority made all the decisions, Wrestling Federation has made this decision’.
Vinesh scripted the history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the finals of wrestling event in Olympics. Later, in a major heartbreak, she was disqualified from the final match after weighing around 100 grams over her 50kg weight category.
She will not even get the silver medal after reaching the finals and the event will only have Gold and Bronze winner. After getting disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024, India’s ace grappler Vinesh Phogat was admitted to hospital due to dehydration.
‘Yes, she has been disqualified. She weighted 100 grams over her weight in the morning’s weight in. Our president Sanjay Singh is here and trying to make an appeal,’ India’s national coach Virendra Singh Dahiya said. Vinesh defeated Japanese wrestler Yui Susaki, a four-time world Olympic champion who had never lost in her international career in the semi-finals.
