In the ongoing United States political changes, on Wednesday, the Democratic nominee for presidential post, Vice President Kamala Harris, started campaigning with her newly selected vice presidential running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Both started campaigning for the first time in Philadelphia, starting off a multi-day tour of strategically aimed states with the aim of introducing Walz to the national stage.
Considering Kamala Harris’s connection to Indian origin, India will look forward to maintaining its strong bilateral relationship regardless of the political party in power in the US in order to witness specific policies and approaches towards the Indian demography in the United States. Although the outcome of US elections can influence trade policies, investment flows, and immigration policies, which are vital for India’s economy, climate change, and counter-terrorism.
Earlier on Tuesday, Kamala Harris announced that she had chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Walz was selected from a number of potential candidates with a strong political background coming from important states. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Harris made the announcement, saying that she is thrilled to share that Tim Walz will be her running mate. Hailing his experience as a governor, coach, teacher, and veteran, she assured him that he would make a positive impact on working families.
I am proud to announce that I've asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate.
As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he's delivered for working families like his.
It's great to have him on the team.

While addressing a huge crowd of 10,000 people at Temple University in his first campaign with Kamala Harris, Walz talked about his upbringing in a small Nebraska town; apart from this, he also mentioned his 24 years of serving in the Army National Guard and his prior career in the field of teaching and coaching football.
Meanwhile, taking a dig at Republican candidate former President Donald Trump, Walz criticised him, pointing out that his presidential record says that he mocked the laws and sowed chaos and division in the state. Adding to the same, he said, Trump froze the face of the COVID crisis, doomed the economy, committed violent crime, and so on.
As Harris and Walz embark on their campaign, the upcoming months will be crucial in determining their success in the election. Their ability to address key issues and connect with voters in battleground states will be vital. Meanwhile, India will closely observe the developments, as the outcome of the US elections can impact bilateral relations, trade policies, investment flows, and immigration policies, which are essential for India’s interests. The focus will be on how the new administration if elected, will navigate these crucial areas and continue to foster a strong partnership between the two nations.
