India’s Neeraj Chopra added a Silver medal to his illustrious career in the men’s javelin final at the Paris Olympics. The Tokyo 2020 champion achieved his best-ever Olympic throw of 89.45m, securing second place in a thrilling competition.
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem delivered an extraordinary performance, claiming the Gold with a record-breaking throw of 92.97m. Nadeem’s exceptional series included two throws surpassing 90m, marking one of the most remarkable feats in Olympic track and field history. Anderson Peters of Grenada took home the Bronze with a throw of 88.54m, his first Olympic medal.
The event marked a historic 1-2 finish for India and Pakistan on the Olympic podium in men’s javelin, reversing the order from last year’s World Championships where Chopra won Gold and Nadeem Silver. Chopra’s consistent performance, despite managing only one legal attempt in the final, solidified his standing as one of India’s top athletes, becoming the fifth Indian to win more than one individual Olympic medal.
Arshad Nadeem’s victory, featuring an additional impressive throw of 91.79m, earned him Pakistan’s first-ever Gold medal in an individual event at the Olympics. His achievement places him among the elite group of athletes, alongside Johannes Vetter and Anderson Peters, who have thrown over 90m twice in a single day.
Jakub Vadlejch, the Tokyo silver medalist, finished fourth, followed by Rio silver medalist Yulius Yego in fifth. Julian Weber, competing in his third Olympics, narrowly missed the podium again, while London bronze medalist Keshorn Walcott ended the competition in seventh place.
The Paris Olympics javelin final has left an indelible mark on the athletics community, with Arshad Nadeem’s record-breaking performance standing out as a highlight of the games.
