The UN has strongly condemned attacks motivated by racial hatred in response to the troubling rise in violence against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh. Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, condemned the violence and demanded immediate action. “We have made it clear that we want to see the violence in Bangladesh, which has been escalating in recent weeks, brought under control,” Haq said on Thursday. “We stand firmly against any attacks or incitement to violence based on race.” The urgency for international intervention and support has increased due to the growing instability in Bangladesh following former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and departure to India, which has triggered this strong condemnation.
