Two soldiers were injured in a gunfight with militants in the mountains of Kokernag, located in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, on Saturday afternoon, according to police sources. The clash occurred when a joint security team was conducting a cordon and search operation in the forested area of Ahlan Gadole, and militants opened fire on them.
Jammu and Kashmir Police have not yet confirmed the injuries but acknowledged the ongoing encounter in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The post stated, “Encounter has started at Ahlan Gagarmandu area of district Anantnag. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.”
This incident follows a deadly encounter in the same area last year, where an army major, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), and two other soldiers were killed during a gunfight with militants.
