The Samajwadi Party (SP) is once again in the spotlight for a scandal involving one of its prominent leaders. Nawab Singh Yadav, a former representative of Dimple Yadav and a well-known figure within the party, has been arrested in Kanpur on charges of sexually assaulting a minor. Yadav was apprehended at Chaudhary Chandan Singh College, where he was allegedly caught in the act of the crime.
According to reports, the minor girl accused Yadav of exploiting her under the guise of offering employment. Her mother filed a complaint, prompting the police to take action. Yadav was taken into custody at the college in a compromising situation, with Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand overseeing the operation.
The arrest led to significant unrest, with hundreds of Yadav’s supporters gathering at the police station. To manage the situation, additional security forces were deployed, and senior officers, including the Circle Officer (CO) and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), were present to ensure order.
In response to the arrest, the Samajwadi Party has distanced itself from Yadav. District President Kaleem Khan issued a statement on August 12, asserting that Yadav was “not an active member” of the party and had been involved in “anti-party activities” for the past five years. Khan urged the media not to associate Yadav with the Samajwadi Party, claiming that he had been plotting to damage the party’s reputation by falsely associating himself with it.
Yadav, who had previously been a close aide of Akhilesh Yadav and recently posted a video celebrating Akhilesh’s birthday, has vehemently denied the allegations. He claims the charges are part of a political conspiracy aimed at ending his career.

This incident is not an isolated case for the Samajwadi Party. There have been multiple instances where party members have been implicated in serious criminal activities, including rape. Another recent case involves Moid Khan, an associate of SP MP Awadhesh Prasad, who was arrested for allegedly raping his 12-year-old daily wage employee over an extended period.
The BJP has also been active in addressing these issues, with a delegation meeting the victim’s family and advocating for increased compensation from the state government. BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have criticized the Samajwadi Party, highlighting Moid Khan’s association with the party and its broader issues with criminal behavior among its members.
These recurring scandals cast a long shadow over the Samajwadi Party, raising questions about its internal governance and its handling of criminal behavior among its ranks. The party’s attempts to distance itself from its disgraced members may not be enough to erase the growing concerns about its reputation and integrity.
