India celebrated its 78th Independence Day on August 15, with special events and messages highlighting the nation’s progress and aspirations. Former President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were key figures in the day’s celebrations, each underscoring the importance of contributing towards India’s future as a ‘Viksit Bharat,’ or developed nation.
Former President Kovind’s Message
Former President Ram Nath Kovind extended his greetings to the nation, urging all citizens to continue their efforts in making India a ‘Viksit Bharat.’ In an interview with ANI, he said, “We are celebrating the 78th Independence Day. My Independence Day wishes to all Indians. I appeal to everyone to keep giving your participation to make this country ‘Viksit Bharat.'” Kovind’s message emphasized the collective effort needed to advance India’s development goals.
On the morning of August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolor and addressed the nation from the historic Red Fort in Delhi. Before his speech, PM Modi visited Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He then proceeded to the Red Fort, where he inspected the Guard of Honour and hoisted the flag.
In his address, PM Modi praised the achievements of women across various sectors, including the Air Force. He highlighted their role in showcasing ‘Nari Shakti,’ or women’s power, and urged continued support and celebration of their contributions.
“Their achievements are a testament to the strength and spirit of Nari Shakti. As we move forward, let us continue to support and celebrate their remarkable contributions to our nation’s progress,” PM Modi said.
The weather in Delhi was slightly drizzly and overcast on Independence Day. Despite the weather, the celebrations proceeded with grandeur. After hoisting the national flag, PM Modi received a ‘Rashtriya Salute.’ The Punjab Regiment Military band, led by Subedar Major Rajinder Singh, played the National Anthem during this ceremonial moment.
The Indian Navy coordinated the event this year, inviting around 6,000 special guests to witness the festivities at the Red Fort. Flower petals were showered on the venue by two Advanced Light Helicopters Dhruv of the Indian Air Force, piloted by Wing Commander Amber Agarwal and Wing Commander Rahul Nainwal.
The theme for this year’s Independence Day was ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047.’ This theme reflects the government’s vision for transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. The celebrations served as a platform to renew efforts towards achieving this ambitious goal, with a focus on continued progress and development.
Overall, the 78th Independence Day was marked by a sense of national pride and a forward-looking vision for India’s future, emphasizing the collective role of all citizens in achieving a developed and prosperous nation.
