Former India batsman VVS Laxman will extend his tenure as the head of the Bengaluru-based National Cricket Academy by at least a year. His initial three-year contract was till this September. Laxman became the head of the NCA in 2021 for three years.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Laxman was being considered by an IPL franchise for the head coach position but the position is now not possible due to his duties at the NCA. He is likely to be assisted by his team of coaches including Indian domestic cricket veterans Shitanshu Kotak, Sairaj Bahutule and Hrishikesh Kanitkar.

Laxman’s contract extension comes ahead of the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art NCA complex on the outskirts of Bengaluru, the foundation of which was laid in January 2022, 14 years after the Karnataka government approved the land on a 99-year lease.
