On Friday, the Mamata Banerjee-led-Trinamool Congress government transferred two doctors from the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. A notification issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department, over 42 doctors were moved across the State by the government.
The development came amid ongoing protests over the rape-murder of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Sandipa Das and Sangeeta Pal were the doctors who were removed from the healthcare institution.
Notably, Pal is the wife of the ex-principal of RG Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Das. She was transferred from the Department of Microbiology at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata to the Government Medical College & Hospital in Jalpaiguri.
Another doctor named Supriya Das, who was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Radiology in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was transferred to the same position at Malda College. United Doctors Front Association (UDFA) criticized the decision.
It tweeted, ‘We strongly condemn @MamataOfficial @BengalGovernor unjust transfer of faculty members who supported our protest. These punitive measures will not silence our demands for justice and security. We stand united and resolute in our fight’.
