In Udaipur, Rajasthan, communal violence erupted after a Class-10 student allegedly stabbed a fellow student at a government school. The incident, which took place on Friday, led to widespread unrest in the city, with members of different communities clashing and creating a tense atmosphere.
On Sunday, the family members of the injured boy, along with a large crowd of supporters, took part in a rally in Udaipur. The rally began at Mukherjee Nagar Chowk and moved toward MB Hospital, where the injured boy is currently being treated. The protestors, raising slogans, demanded that the boy’s family be allowed to see him in the hospital.
Udaipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogesh Goyal addressed the situation, stating that there was some confusion regarding the family’s access to the injured boy. He clarified that the family members are permitted to meet him. According to Goyal, the boy’s condition is stable, though still critical. The hospital is expected to release a medical bulletin soon, providing an update on his health.
The violence that followed the stabbing incident saw a mob setting fire to vehicles and pelting stones as anger spread through the city. Several Hindu organizations also staged protests, condemning the stabbing and calling for justice. In response, the district administration took swift action by demolishing the house of the boy accused of the stabbing. The house, which officials claimed was built on forest land, was razed on Saturday in the presence of police personnel.
Given the volatile situation, the district administration has imposed prohibitory orders, banning the assembly of people in Udaipur. Mobile internet services were suspended in several areas to prevent the spread of misinformation and further escalation of violence. Despite the tension, markets in the city remained open on Sunday, although with a heavy police presence to maintain order.
The boy who allegedly committed the stabbing was presented before a court on Saturday. The court sent him to a juvenile home, while his father was being detained for questioning. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, trying to uncover the motives behind the attack and prevent further communal unrest in the city.
The situation in Udaipur remains tense, with additional police forces deployed to ensure peace and stability. The community is urged to remain calm as the authorities work to resolve the situation and bring those responsible to justice.
