Nepali Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba arrived in India on Sunday for her first official visit as the Foreign Minister of Nepal. The five-day visit, invited by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, is part of the ongoing tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two neighboring countries.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed Arzu Rana Deuba to India with a warm message on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Sharing a photo of their meeting, Jaishankar wrote, “Welcome @Arzuranadeuba of Nepal on her first visit to India as Foreign Minister. Looking forward to our talks.”
The visit is seen as a significant step in further consolidating the already strong and multifaceted relations between India and Nepal. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India emphasized the importance of this visit, highlighting the unique and close ties between the two countries. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed his welcome on X, noting that the visit continues the tradition of high-level bilateral exchanges and underscores the deep bond shared by India and Nepal.
According to Nepal’s Foreign Ministry, the main focus of Arzu Rana Deuba’s visit is to strengthen the relationship between the two countries and to promote cooperation on matters of mutual interest. During her visit, she will hold meetings with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, where they will discuss various issues aimed at enhancing Nepal-India relations.
The visit comes at a particularly symbolic time, as it coincides with the festival of Raksha Bandhan, a celebration of the bond between brothers and sisters. In a special gesture, Arzu Rana Deuba is also scheduled to tie a Rakhi, a traditional thread symbolizing protection, to Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale, a senior leader associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

An official from Deuba’s secretariat confirmed this unique addition to her visit, noting that the Foreign Minister was originally set to visit India for a medical checkup, but the formal invitation from Jaishankar allowed her to combine both purposes.
This visit is expected to deepen further the historical and cultural ties between India and Nepal, reinforcing their partnership in various areas of mutual interest. The discussions held during this visit will likely pave the way for enhanced cooperation in the coming years, solidifying the relationship between the two nations.
