A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer lost his life after terrorists opened fire on a patrol party in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. The incident occurred in the Dadu area, where a joint team of the CRPF and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was conducting a patrol. The terrorists launched a sudden attack on the team, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

In response to the attack, security forces have launched a counter-terror operation in the area. The region is known for its difficult terrain, with thick forests and steep mountains, making it a challenging environment for such operations. The security forces are working diligently to track down the terrorists involved in the attack and ensure the safety of the area.

The attack in Udhampur highlights a concerning rise in terror activities in the Jammu region, which had been relatively calm in recent years compared to the Kashmir Valley. However, there has been an increase in terrorist incidents, particularly in the southern parts of the Pir Panjal range. This region’s dense forests and rugged terrain provide cover for terrorists, making it a hotspot for such activities.

This attack comes just days after another tragic incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. On August 14, an army officer, Captain Deepak Singh, was killed during an encounter with terrorists in the Shivgarh-Assar belt of Doda. The officer was part of a cordon-and-search operation when he was fatally wounded by gunfire. A civilian was also injured during the encounter, highlighting the ongoing threats faced by both security forces and civilians in the region.

High-Level Meeting on Rising Terror Attacks

In light of these recent incidents, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a high-level meeting to address the growing threat of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting, held in Delhi’s South Block, was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. The discussions focused on strengthening security measures in the Union Territory and ensuring that such attacks are prevented in the future.

The killing of the CRPF officer in Udhampur is a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir. With the rise in terror activities in the region, security forces are on high alert, working tirelessly to protect the citizens and maintain peace. The government’s response to these incidents underscores the importance of addressing the growing threats and ensuring the safety and security of the Union Territory.
