On Thursday, the Bombay High Court took suo motu cognizance of the sexual abuse of minor girls in Adarsh Vidya Mandir School in Badlapur. A bench of Justice Revati Dere and Justice PK Chavan rebuked the police during the hearing on Thursday.
The bench told the Maharashtra Police that action should have been taken as soon as the information about the case was received. There was a lot of delay in registering an FIR in this case.
The court warned the police that if you try to suppress the case in any way, then strict action will be taken. The court has also made it clear that it need all the documents here.
During this, the state government told the High Court that action will be taken against the concerned school in the Badlapur sexual abuse case. The court hurled questions at Advocate General Birendra Saraf, who was pleading on behalf of the state government.
The court asked what did the Badlapur police do before handing over the investigation to the special team? Where are its documents? The court asked the state government whether they counselled the affected girls? On this, the state government’s lawyers told the court that one victim girl has been counselled and the other girl is undergoing counselling.
The police told the court that the incident took place in Badlapur’s Adarsh Vidya Mandir School on 12 and 13 August and the parents came to the police station on 16 August.
An SIT has been formed in this case on 21 August. Two officers of Badlapur police station have been suspended. Advocate General Birendra Saraf told the court that action will be taken against the school for hiding the incident. The High Court directed the state government to file a detailed affidavit in this regard. The next hearing of this case will be on 27 August at 2.30 pm.
