Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court has extended the judicial custody of Bibhav Kumar, accused of assaulting Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal, till September 13. Notably, Judicial Magistrate First Class Gaurav Goyal gave this order.

The court directed the Delhi Police to number the pages of the charge sheet filed against Bibhav Kumar. Bibhav had said that the page numbers have not been given on the charge sheet pages. He is not able to know whether all the documents are complete or not. The court ordered to number the pages.

Bibhav Kumar’s judicial custody was ending today, after which he was produced in the court. Bibhav has filed a bail petition in the Supreme Court, which is still pending.

On July 12, the Delhi High Court had rejected Bibhav’s bail petition. The Tis Hazari Court had said that the investigation of this case is still in the initial stage and the victim has a threat to her safety in her mind. Swati Maliwal is an Aam Aadmi Party MP and she had gone to meet her party’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The court had said that there is also a possibility that if Bibhav is granted bail, he can influence the witnesses.

Delhi Police arrested Bibhav on May 18. In this case, Swati Maliwal had recorded her statement in the court on May 17. The incident took place on May 13 and Delhi Police had recorded Swati Maliwal’s statement on May 16 and filed an FIR.
