All the political parties have started laying the political chessboard for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Congress and National Conference have formed an alliance and talks are going on for seat sharing. On the other hand, BJP has taken a step forward and released the first list of its candidates.
In this list of 44 candidates, BJP has given tickets to Kashmiri Pandits from two seats. Veer Saraf from Shangas-Anantnag East and Ashok Bhatt from Habbakadal have been made candidates. At the same time, 14 Muslim candidates have also been fielded. Union Minister Jitendra Singh’s brother Devendra Rana has been made the candidate from Nagota by BJP. Devendra Rana left the National Conference and joined BJP.
On the other hand, Jammu and Kashmir state BJP president Ravindra Raina has not been given a ticket. Former Deputy CM of the state and former Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Dr. Nirmal Singh has not been given a ticket this time. Not only this, former Deputy CM Kavinder Gupta has also not got a ticket.
A meeting of the Central Election Committee was held under the leadership of PM Modi regarding the Jammu and Kashmir elections. Many senior leaders including BJP President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah attended it. In this meeting, election strategy, issues, names of candidates and possible rallies of PM Modi in the state were discussed.
Voting for the assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is to be held in 3 phases on 18 September, 25 September and 1 October and the results will be declared on 4 October. Therefore, in the first list, BJP has announced the names of 15 candidates for the first phase, 10 for the second phase and 19 for the third phase.
Special polling booths have been set up in Delhi, Jammu and Udhampur for Kashmiri migrants. Nominations for the first phase will be filed from 27 August, for the second phase from 5 September and for the third phase from 12 September.
