The UP government has approved the new social media policy and the policy has been approved by the Yogi Cabinet. According to the new policy, a crackdown has been imposed on those who post anti-national and objectionable posts on social media platforms. A provision of punishment ranging from 3 years to life imprisonment has been made for such users.
As of now action is taken under Section 66E and 66F of the IT Act. One may also have to face a criminal defamation case for posting indecent and obscene content. Along with this, the government has also arranged for government advertisements for digital agencies and firms.
They will be encouraged by giving advertisements on sharing content, videos, tweets, posts and reels based on the public welfare schemes of the government and the achievements of the government on various social media platforms X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
The government has divided it into 4 categories on the basis of subscribers and followers. According to these categories, they will be given 5 lakh, 4 lakh, 3 lakh and 30 thousand rupees per month. While for YouTube video shot and podcast payment, 8 lakh rupees, 7 lakh rupees, 6 lakh rupees and 4 lakh rupees have been kept.
The purpose of this policy is to limit the hatred and fake news spreading on social media. The government believes that people make false news viral and share it on social media due to which many times the unity and integrity of the country is threatened. The government has announced strict punishment in the policy to ban such content on social media.
