On Tuesday, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made several announcements at a program of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) clarifying the state government’s position on the RG Kar Hospital scandal.
CM Mamata said that she wants to call a special session of the state assembly and pass a law for death penalty in rape cases. She said, “What happened is very unfortunate but there should be no delay in the action after this. We wanted the decision to be taken through a fast-track court within seven days’.
On the occasion of the foundation day of TMCP, Mamata Banerjee participated in a rally organized at Mayo Road in Dharmatala on Wednesday. During this, she expressed her views on the safety of women in the state, BJP’s politics and many other issues.
She said that no woman in Bengal will feel unsafe and whoever is found guilty will be given strict punishment. In her address, the Chief Minister said, “I dedicate this day to the victims. I dedicate it to all the women across the country who have been victims of harassment and their families.” She also gave a message to the students and youth to fulfill their social responsibility.
Praising the role of the police during the Navanna March, the Chief Minister said, “I salute the police for yesterday. They remained restrained, shed their blood but did not get caught in the conspiracy of the BJP.” Targeting the BJP, Mamata said, “Why the bandh? If you want to do a bandh, do it against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who does nothing but oppress people using agencies.”
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of trying to sabotage the TMCP rally. She said, “Today, an attempt was made to stop our children who were coming to the rally. Trains were stopped by calling a bandh.” Targeting the BJP over the RG Kar Hospital incident, Mamata said, “The BJP is trying to weaken the real movement. We want justice, want punishment for the culprits but they have spoiled the real movement. They are playing the game of defaming Bengal.”
