In Nashik a minor girl took her own life after facing harassment, kidnapping and pressure for forced religious conversion and marriage. She consumed poison because of the frustration and pressure to convert and marry and died during treatment at a hospital.
The Nashik Road Police have filed a case against ten suspects under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 107 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Kalam Mansoori (22), one of the primary accused, is alleged to have stalked the girl and pressured her into marriage. According to the media reports, Mansoori was supported by his family and others who pressured the minor girl into agreeing to marry him.
The victim’s mother lodged a complaint indicating that the girl had been enduring continuous threats and harassment from Mansoori and his associates.
CCTV footage revealed that Mansoori and his driver, Sahil Saeed were involved in kidnapping her. The girl’s family had previously removed her from school and opted for homeschooling instead.
The victim swallowed poison on the day of the incident and was taken to the hospital. The police classified the case as a sudden death and on August 27 the girl’s mother went to the police station to file a formal complaint.
The police arrested Mansoori and his family members who were allegedly involved in pressurizing the victim into taking such a drastic action. The investigation is ongoing with the police examining the involvement of other suspects in the case.
