IC814 ‘The Kandahar Hijack’ web series released on 29 August is being fiercely opposed on social media. The reason for the protest is the names of the terrorists in the web series. The web series has Chief, Doctor, Burger, Bhola and Shankar, this web series is being opposed due to these names.
Along with this, there is also a demand for boycott of this web series. Many people including saints have objected to these names. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has sent a summon to the Netflix content head and called for questioning.
On January 6, 2000, a statement was issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, in which the real names of the hijackers were revealed. It was also said in the statement of the Ministry of External Affairs that the five hijackers had kept codenames to call each other in front of the passengers and to talk to the Government of India.
The real names of the hijackers are Ibrahim Athar (Bahawalpur), Shahid Akhtar Saeed, Gulshan Iqbal (Karachi), Sunny Ahmed Qazi Defense Area (Karachi), Mistry Zahoor Ibrahim Akhtar Colony (Karachi), Shakir (Sukkur City). That is, Chief, Doctor, Burger, Bhola and Shankar etc. were the codenames of the terrorists. They were using it to call each other during the hijack. That is, the names shown in the web series were not kept by the film director and neither is the story fabricated.
On December 24, 1999, Indian Airlines flight IC814 took off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, for Delhi at 4:30 pm. There were 178 passengers in the plane. Then at 5 pm, as soon as the plane entered Indian airspace, five armed terrorists became active and hijacked the plane. Later, three terrorists were released by the Indian government to rescue the passengers trapped in the plane.
