On Teacher’s Day, Abhaya’s mother penned an emotional open letter addressed to the society, seeking support in her fight for justice. Abhaya’s mother also thanked all daughter’s teachers for guiding her. It has almost been a month since the rape and murder of a trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital shocked the nation.
The letter of Abhaya’s mother reads.
‘Through the letter, she has sought support from the society in the fight for justice. On the occasion of Teachers Day, September 5, she wrote in the letter, ‘I am the mother of the poor deceased. Today on Teacher’s Day, I salute all the teachers on behalf of my daughter. Since childhood, her dream was to become a doctor. You were driving force behind that dream’.
She further added that we have been with her as her guardians, she herself worked very hard. But I think, because she got good teachers lke you, she was able to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor’. Then came the matter of degree, my daughter used to say, ‘Mom, I don’t need money, I just want a lot of degrees in front of my name and I want to curse as many patients as possible’.
She further said, ‘Even on that day when she went out of the house, she had served many patients in the hospital. During duty, the miscreants killed her and her dreams were brutally strangled. The dream of becoming a gold medalist in MD written that night is still incomplete. Even after this heinous incident, full preparations were made by the hospital administration and officials to erase all the evidence’.
The mother of the deceased wrote in a last part of the letter, “Being a mother, it is a humble request to all the teachers, doctors, health officials, nursing staff of the medical college that if you have any information and evidence, please bring it forward because I feel that the silence of some good boosts the morale of the criminals. With the message of standing with the movement of the medical society and the common people and on Teacher’s Day, everyone’.
