In a landmark decision, the Union government has extended health coverage to all individuals aged 70 and above through the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The Union Cabinet’s approval of this move under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) will bring substantial relief to 4.5 crore families, including six crore senior citizens. The scheme offers free health coverage worth Rs 5 lakh per family, ensuring critical financial protection for the elderly. According to a government statement, an additional 6 crore individuals from 4.5 crore families in this age group are expected to benefit. Eligible beneficiaries will receive a new card under PM-JAY.
