On Monday, the West Bengal government invited the protesting junior doctors for talks for the fifth and last time to end the RG Kar Medical College dispute. This meeting failed two days ago on Saturday night when the disagreement held between the two sides over the live streaming of the meeting.
State Chief Secretary Manoj Pant has sent an e-mail to the protesting junior doctors and called them for a meeting at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence at 5 pm on Monday. Pant expressed hope that it was agreed on Saturday that there would be no live streaming or videography of the meeting, as the matter is pending before the Supreme Court. He said, ‘The minutes of the meeting will be recorded and signed by both the parties’.
The protesting doctors, responding to the e-mail, said that they would discuss among themselves and then decide whether they would attend the meeting or not.
The doctors are protesting against the rape-murder case of a trainee female doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. These doctors are adamant on the demand for speedy justice and resignation of CM Mamata Banerjee. Now the government has called these doctors for talks for the 5th time.
Before this, talks between the striking doctors and the government could not take place 4 times. Last time the junior doctors did not talk to Mamata Banerjee on the demand of live streaming of the talks. CM Mamata sat in Nevanna for several hours after which she also talked about resigning from the CM post for justice. The government has again sent a proposal for talks.
