After Arvind Kejriwal resignation from the post of Delhi Chief Minister, Delhi minister Atishi will take over as Chief Minister after a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Notably, the decision was taken at an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators’ meeting today. At the meeting of AAP MLAs, party leader Dilip Pandey proposed that Arvind Kejriwal decide on the Chief Minister face. All AAP MLAs stood up and accepted when the AAP national convenor proposed Atishi’s name and Atishi was elected leader of the legislature party, according to the media reports.

Now, Atishi holds key portfolios in the Delhi government such as Education and Public Works Department. Atishi, an MLA from Kalkaji, the 43-year-old became a minister after Manish Sisodia was arrested in a corruption case linked to Delhi’s now-scrapped liquor policy. On August 15, Kejriwal chose her to hoist the tricolour at Delhi government’s Independence Day event.
The elevation of Atishi comes two days after Kejriwal’s shocking announcement of resigning from Delhi’s post. While addressing a gathering of party workers on Sunday, the Delhi Chief Minister said, ‘I will resign as Chief Minister after two days and I will not sit on that chair till the people announce their verdict. Elections in Delhi are months away. I will get justice from the people’s court as I got justice from the legal court. I will sit on the Chief Minister’s chair only after the order of the people’. Kejriwal’s decision comes two days after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a corruption case linked to Delhi’s now-scrapped liquor policy. Six months after his arrest, the bail order paved the way for his release from prison.
Notably, assembly polls in Delhi are scheduled for February, but Kejriwal has demanded that they be held in November along with the Maharashtra election. On Friday, the Supreme Court granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been jailed for the last six months in the alleged liquor policy scam. The chief minister was granted bail for a few days two months ago ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections.
