Amid the first phase voting in the Jammu & Kashmir, BJP candidate Shagun Parihar was heckled at Bagwan Mohalla polling station, on Wednesday. BJP has alleged that PDP workers has hackled Parihar when she reached a polling station on information of fake voting.
Shagun Parihar is BJP ‘s candidate in fray from Kishtawar constituency, who was at Bagwan Mohalla polling station. Forces have been kept on stand-by near the polling station; Meanwhile, Police and election authorities tried to pacify the situation. Additional paramilitary forces trying to move the PDP workers and candidate out of the polling station.
Police and officials were trying to re-start voting at Bhagwan Mohalla polling station amid high voltage drama between BJP and PDP. Later Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Rajesh Shavan arrived on the spot and further situation was brought under control and polling was resumed in the booth.
Meanwhile, PM Modi and Union Home Minister Shah have appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in a social media post that the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections is starting. The first phase of the elections will cover 24 assembly segments across seven districts of the UT, including Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, and Kulgam in the Kashmir Division and Doda, Ramban, and Kishtwar in the Jammu Division.
In the Kashmir Division, 16 seats are up for contest which includes Anantnag, Shopian, Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Dooru, Zainapora, , DH Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Kokernag (ST), Anantnag West, Srigufwara-Bijbehara, Shangus-Anantnag East, and Pahalgam. In the Jammu Division, eight constituencies that are voting today include Doda, Inderwal, Kishtwar, Ramban, Padder-Nagseni, Bhadarwah, Doda West, and Banihal.
As per the latest electoral rolls, 23,27,580 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in this phase, comprising 11,76,462 lakh male voters, 11,51,058 lakh female voters, and 60 third-gender voters.
