A 3-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by Qasim Rehman, identified as an IT expert, within the premises of a school in Bhopal. The incident surfaced when the child’s mother noticed injury marks on her private parts, prompting her to lodge a complaint with the school authorities. The school principal initially claimed no prior knowledge of the incident, saying that they were informed by the police about an FIR against Qasim Rehman, who was part of the school’s IT department.
Qasim Rehman has been arrested, with charges filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The School Education Minister, Udai Pratap Singh, expressed grave concern over the matter, highlighting the necessity for a campaign to increase awareness about such heinous acts. He assured that legal actions are being pursued and emphasized the seriousness with which the education department views this incident.
Bhopal’s Police Commissioner, Hari Narayan Chari, confirmed the occurrence of the assault. The investigation into this distressing case continues. Priyank Kanoongo, Chairperson, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPR) condemned the incident of alleged sexual harassment of a three-year-old girl on Wednesday and said the commission has taken cognizance of the matter.
Writing about the incident in a post on X, he said, ‘The incident of sexual abuse of a 3-year-old girl by a school employee Kasim Rehan, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh is highly condemnable. The Commission has taken cognizance of this. He further mentioned that the matter has been discussed with the Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh State Child Commission over the phone, and appropriate action will be taken.
He further added, ‘The incident of sexual abuse of a 3-year-old girl by a school employee, Qasim Rehan, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh is highly condemnable. The Commission has taken cognizance of this’.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also condemned the sexual harassment case of a three-year-old girl by her school teacher, and ordered to take strict action against the accused. CM Yadav posted a video on his official X handle on Wednesday and wrote, ‘A case of rape of a three-year-old girl by a school teacher in Bhopal has come to my notice. I have instructed to take strict action. Along with this, I will try to get the justice served in this case through a special court. This act is extremely disgusting, shameful and condemnable’.
