On Thursday, the Israeli military launched a number of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah, marking one of the most intense bombardment in 2024. According to the media reports, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) targeted approximately 30 launchers, 150 nests, military infrastructure, buildings, and a weapons warehouse belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. IDF tweeted on X, ‘With the direction of IDF intelligence, the IAF struck approximately 30 Hezbollah launchers and terrorist infrastructure sites, containing approximately 150 launcher barrels that were ready to fire projectiles toward Israeli territory’.
It further added, ‘The IDF struck Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure and a weapons storage facility in various areas in southern Lebanon’. The IDF directly instructed residents in northern Israel to limit the movements avoid gatherings, secure village gates, and stay near protected areas, by passing the usual communication through local authorities. These instructions were issued to residents of Merom Galil, Upper Galilee, Mevo’ot Hermon, Yesod HaMa’ala, Hazor, Rosh Pina, Safed, Metula and northern Golan communities following an updated situation assessment.
The airstrikes occurred shortly after Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, declared that retribution will come to Israel in response to bold attacks on Hezbollah’s pagers and walkie-talkies, which resulted in several casualties and thousands of injuries. Nasrallah said that Israel had crossed a red line after the bombings, attributed to Israel, caused the remote detonation of hundreds of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria. Israel’s Defence Minister Gallant affirmed that Hezbollah will pay an increasing price as Israel aims to create safe conditions near its border with Lebanon, allowing residents to return to their homes.
Gallant said, ‘Our goal is to ensure the safe return of Israel’s northern communities to their homes. As time goes, Hezbollah will pay an increasing price. The sequence of our military actions will continue’. On Wednesday, walkie-talkies and solar equipment exploded in Beirut and other parts of Lebanon in an second wave of attacks targeting devices a day after pagers used by Hezbollah blew up, according to the media reports. At least 20 people were killed and more than 450 wounded in the second wave, the Health Ministry said.
