Heavy rains in Nepal and Bihar have made life difficult for people as due to these drops falling from the sky, many rivers including Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati, Kamla Balan and Ganga are in spate. All are seen submerged be it houses, shops or farms. This flood has taken away the homes of millions of people and many people are forced to live on the roofs of houses.
Many have made islands their homes and the situation is such that out of 38 districts of Bihar, 13 districts are in the grip of the devastating play of floods. This devastation is becoming more horrific day by day. People are now remembering the horrific memories of 1968 and 2008. In 2008, 526 people died due to floods. Officials said that about 13 districts located on the banks of Ganga including Buxar, Bhojpur, Saran, Patna, Samastipur, Begusarai, Munger and Bhagalpur are already facing flood-like situation.
About 16 lakh population of 12 districts of North Bihar is affected. However, on Monday morning, all 56 gates of Kosi Barrage located at Veerpur in Supaul district were closed due to which people are expected to get relief in the coming days. This gate was open for the last four days. During the last 24 hours, 6 people have died due to drowning in flood water in Kosi-Seemanchal.

On the third day of opening the gate of Kosi Barrage, on Sunday-Monday midnight, flood water has reached Kiratpur block and Ghanshyampur block due to the breaking of Kosi embankment near Bhubhaul village of Kiratpur block in Darbhanga district. The Darbhanga district administration was trying to save it since late Sunday evening but it could not bear the pressure of water and broke at 1 am. The Bagmati river, one of the major rivers of North Bihar, affects Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Shivhar and some Motihari areas of North Bihar and it is flowing above the danger mark.
Due to the breaking of the dam in the border district of Muzaffarpur, Shivhar, late at night, many villages of Katra and Aurai blocks in Muzaffarpur district have been submerged. Due to the Bagmati river, many villages of Aurai and Katra of Muzaffarpur as well as Gaighat block are getting submerged on Monday with water filling.

With the filling of water, the trouble of the people has increased as people are taking shelter at higher places. Water has also entered inside the power grid in Bakuchi of Katra block in Muzaffarpur due to which the power supply has been disrupted. District Magistrate of Muzaffarpur Subrat Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar visited the flood affected areas in Aurai and Katra blocks on Monday.
Six people died due to drowning in Kosi-Seemanchal and surrounding districts. Three people lost their lives in Araria while two people also died in Kishanganj. A young man went missing while removing water hyacinth in Supaul, whose search is going on. A 12-year-old girl went missing and a 55-year-old man died after drowning in flood waters at different places in Palasi block of Araria.
While two-year-old Priyanshi died after falling into a deep water pit. A 16-year-old girl died by drowning while bathing in the Budidangi river of Kishanganj. She has been identified as Sangeeta, 16, daughter of Shankar Sahni, resident of Churli Hatia. A 30-year-old youth went missing while removing the water lily near Govindpur Siphon in Jadia police station area of Supaul.
It is said that Chandan Rishidev, 30-year-old son of Yogendra Rishidev, resident of Gamharia in Bhargama police station area of Araria district, had gone to prepare the water lily by removing the water lily near Govindpur Siphon. While removing the water lily, he went into deep water and went missing. On Sunday, the search is being carried out by removing water hyacinth with the help of JCB.
