After killing Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, the Israeli army has now targeted his potential successor Hashim Saifuddin. According to the media reports, Israel carried out intense airstrikes in Beirut’s Dahieh suburb at midnight on Thursday. However, there has been no official statement from either the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) or the Hezbollah in Lebanon.
At that time Hashim Saifuddin was holding a meeting of senior Hezbollah officials in an underground bunker. However, there has been no official statement from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) or Hezbollah in Lebanon.
According to the media reports, this Israeli attack was much bigger than the killing of Nasrallah. The number of casualties in this attack is not yet known. Hashim Saifuddin, declared a terrorist by the United States in 2017, is currently playing an important role in Hezbollah’s political affairs. He is a member of the group’s Jihad Council, which manages its military operations.
Nasrallah’s cousin Hashim Saifuddin was generally considered the ‘number two’ in Hezbollah and also has close ties with the Iranian regime. Nasrallah appointed Hashim Saifuddin to various influential positions within Hezbollah’s councils. Hashim calls himself a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad.
The US State Department declared him a terrorist in 2017. On Thursday, Israel carried out a massive attack in the southern suburbs of Beirut, in which many people were killed. Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the killing of top Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah during a targeted airstrike in Beirut. The IDF has eliminated the top command of the Iranian-backed group. The attack was carried out by Israeli Air Force (IAF) fighter jets on Hezbollah’s central headquarters.
The headquarters was reportedly underground under a residential building in the Dahieh area. Hezbollah’s southern front commander Ali Karki was also killed in the attack. In a post on social media platform X, the IDF said, “Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorize the world. The Israeli army confirmed that Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Hezbollah terrorist organization and one of its founders, was killed along with Hezbollah’s southern front commander Ali Karki and additional Hezbollah commanders.”
