As counting of votes starts in Haryana , the Julana assembly segment comes up as a focal point of excitement and competition. Olympic medalist Vinesh Phogat, who recently retired from international wrestling, contested on a Congress ticket and won from the seat with a staggering 6,015 votes.
Phogat campaigned as ‘Julana ki Bahu’ (daughter-in-law), highlighting her connection through her husband, who hails from Bakhta Khera village in the constituency. Facing her was Yogesh Bairagi, a professional pilot representing the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP )
She defeated her BJP rival, Yogesh Kumar, by a margin of over 6,015 votes in her maiden election. Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidate Surender Lather came third in the high-profile constituency in Jind district.
Earlier trends displayed Vinesh Phogat trailing far behind BJP candidate Yogesh Bairagi, the tables seem to have turned now. Phogat has overtaken Bairagi by 38 seats. Yogesh Bairagi, the BJP candidate from Julana continues his lead with 1417 votes. However, this is lower than his previous lead of 2039 votes. BJP candidate Yogesh Bairagi has surged ahead of Vinesh Phogat by 2039 votes.
