The idol of Goddess Durga was found vandalised at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds in Hyderabad city of Telangana on Thursday. The attack on the Hindu Puja mandap happened during the Devi Sharan Navaratri celebrations in the city. Police from Begum Bazar police station reached the scene and conducted an inspection on learning about the incident.
The extremists, who are behind the vandalism of the idol, are yet to be recognised. A video is getting viral on social media wherein the extent of damage caused to the puja mandap can be seen. Now, it has emerged that the extremists, who carried out the vandalism, disconnected the electricity lines first and then destroyed CCTVs. They damaged the barricades, and the arm of the idol of the Hindu deity. The radicals also threw away Puja paraphernalia.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged into the matter and an investigation is underway. The development was confirmed by ACP Chandra Shekhar. To prevent any untoward situation, the police deployed a large contingent of force at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds to prevent any untoward situation. Hindus in the area are now demanding strong action against the perpetrators.
Earlier, Idols of the Hindu deity were found vandalised in Jharia village in Hooghly district of West Bengal ahead of the Hindu festival of Durga Puja. However, earlier a radical Muslim man vandalised the idols of Goddess Durga and other Hindu deities in Gouripur town in the Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. The accused was identified as 22-year-old Yasin Mia.
Idols of Goddess Durga and other Hindu deities were vandalised at the Rishipara Barwari Puja Mandap and the Manikadi Palpara Barwari Pujamandap on 28th September and 1st October respectively.
