Amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Iran was hit by a massive cyber attack on Saturday, disrupting almost all three branches of the government. Iran’s nuclear facilities were also targeted. The attack came as Israel vowed to give a strong response to Iran’s bombing of 200 missiles on October 1, as tensions continue to rise in West Asia amid the Gaza conflict which has now spread to Lebanon.
Firoozabadi, former secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council of Cyberspace, was quoted as saying, “Almost all three branches of the Iranian government – the judiciary, the legislature and the executive branch have come under heavy cyber attacks and their information has been stolen.
Not only this, our nuclear facilities, as well as networks such as fuel distribution, municipal networks, transportation networks, ports and similar areas have also been targeted by cyber attacks. These incidents are just a small part of the many areas spread across the country.”
The Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant promised this week that his country’s response would be “lethal, precise and surprising.” Meanwhile, in an address to the UN Security Council on Thursday, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, said that the Islamic Republic is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any aggression targeting its vital interests and security.
