The swearing-in of the new government is going to take place on Wednesday in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. NCP leader Omar Abdullah will take oath as the CM of the state. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 11:30 am in the capital Srinagar. ‘
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will administer the oath of office and secrecy to him. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center located on the banks of Dal Lake here. Before the swearing-in ceremony, Jammu and Kashmir’s nominated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid floral tribute to the Mazar-e-Anwar of “Sher-e-Kashmir” Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in Srinagar.
Omar Abdullah was elected the leader of the legislature party in the meeting held on October 10. He went to the Raj Bhavan on October 11 and met LG Manoj Sinha and staked claim to form the government. Omar Abdullah has won the elections from two seats, Ganderbal and Budgam. He can retain the Ganderbal seat. The ceremony is also being considered as a preparation for the show of strength of the Indi alliance on the pretext of the formation of the National Conference-Congress government.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav reached Srinagar yesterday to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are also expected to attend the ceremony. Around 50 leaders including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, Shiv Sena (UBT) president and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, CPI (M) leader Prakash Karat and CPI leader D Raja have been invited for the swearing-in ceremony. NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah said that Sharad Pawar is ill, so his daughter Supriya Sule is coming. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ame Stalin’s sister Kanimozhi Karunanidhi is coming.
Nine MLAs can also take oath as ministers in Omar Abdullah cabinet. It is believed that Sakina Itoo, Saifullah Mir, Abdul Rahim Rather, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Surinder Chaudhary, Farooq Shah, Nazir Ahmed and Ahmed Mir can also join the cabinet. After the removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and its becoming a Union Territory, assembly elections were held for the first time. In the elections held in three phases on 90 seats, the National Conference and Congress alliance got absolute majority. National Conference won 42 seats in the state, while Congress won 9 seats. While BJP with 29 seats will play the role of the main opposition party in the state. At the same time, only 3 candidates of Mehbooba Mufti could reach the assembly.
