The Central Government has approved the increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP) on all mandatory crops for Rabi Marketing Season 2025-26. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the increase in MSP.
Telling about the decisions of the Cabinet, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwin Vaishnav said that the government has increased the MSP to ensure remunerative prices to the producers for their produce.
The highest increase has been made in rapeseed and mustard by Rs 300 per quintal. According to the decisions, the MSP on wheat has been increased by Rs 150 and now it has increased from Rs 2,275 last year to Rs 2,425 per quintal this year.
The MSP on barley has been increased by Rs 130 and it has increased from Rs 1850 to Rs 1980 per quintal. The MSP on gram has been increased by Rs 210 and it has increased from Rs 5440 to Rs 5650 per quintal. The MSP of lentils has been increased by Rs 275.
It has increased from Rs 6425 to Rs 6700. The MSP of rapeseed and mustard has been increased by Rs 140, which has increased from Rs 5800 to Rs 5940 as compared to last year. MSP is the minimum support price, which the government ensures to the farmers for their crops.
The Minimum Support Price for several crops has seen a significant increase including Barley, that saw an increase of Rs 130, bringing its new MSP to Rs 1,980 . Gram experienced a Rs 210 hike, with its MSP now at Rs 5,650. Safflower’s MSP went up by Rs 140, now at Rs 5,940.
The decision to increase the MSP for mandated Rabi Crops for the Marketing Season 2025-26 aligns wit the Union Budget 2018-19 announcement of fixing the MSP at a level 1.5 times of the All-India weighted average cost of production.
