National Conference’s elected MLA Hilal Akbar Lone has been accused of not standing during the national anthem. The allegation was made after Omar Abdullah’s swearing-in ceremony as Chief Minister at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Complex (SKICC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
It was alleged that during this swearing-in ceremony, MLA Hilal Akbar Lone did not stand when the national anthem was being played. This allegation was made after a video went viral. In the viral video, it was claimed that Lone did not stand during the national anthem.
This incident created an uproar on social media. People also started demanding strict action against it. At the same time, after the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Police took cognizance of the matter and started a preliminary investigation. Police said in an X post that they are taking the matter very seriously and investigation has been started under section 173 (3) of BNSS.
Police said that electronic evidence is being analyzed. Further action will be taken on the basis of whatever comes out in the investigation. After the controversy arose, Hilal Akbar Lone gave his clarification on social media. He said that I stood up for the national anthem, but had to sit down due to back pain. I have taken an oath to the Indian Constitution. When Hilal Akbar Lone’s father Mohammad Akbar Lone was an MLA, he raised the slogan “Pakistan Zindabad” in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. He has been an MP from North Kashmir and has also been the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
