The body of a migrant worker from Bihar, identified as Ashok Chauhan, was discovered near the Rambiara River in Shopian district on Wednesday. The 30-year-old, who was a roadside vendor selling maize, was abducted by terrorists from the Malhura area before being shot dead.
Shopian Superintendent of Police Anayat Ali Choudhary confirmed the recovery of the bullet-ridden body but noted that further details about the incident are still pending. Sources within the Jammu & Kashmir Police have identified the deceased and indicated that this attack marks a disturbing trend, as it is the first suspected terrorist strike against a migrant worker following the recent Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
The last known attack targeting a migrant worker occurred in April 17 in Bijbehara town, Anantnag district. The ongoing violence against migrants in the region has raised significant concerns about their safety and security.
