On Tuesday China comes up with a confirmation that it has reached an agreement with India to end the standoff between the two armies in eastern Ladakh. China and India have been in close talks through diplomatic and military channels on issues related to the China-India border, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told a media briefing.

Presently, the two sides have reached a solution on the matters, which China views very positively. ‘In the next phase, China will work with India to implement the solution plan’, spokesperson Lin Jian said.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed progress in response to questions about the reported agreement between China and India on border patrols in disputed areas. China and India have maintained close talks through diplomatic and military channels about the border-related issues. Now, the two sides have reached a resolution on the matters which China speaks highly of, he said. Spokesperson further added, ‘Going forward China will work with India to implement these resolutions’.

He, however, declined to provide details about the agreement. On the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping on the margins of the BRICS summit at Russia’s Kazan, the spokesperson said, ‘We will keep you updated if anything comes up’.

On Monday, India announced that it has reached an agreement with China on patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, in a breakthrough in ending the over four-year-long military standoff between the two armies.

The Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi also responded to the breakthrough border patrol agreement between India and China. The Indian Army Chief has stated that through this agreement, India is trying to ‘restore trust’.” As far as we are concerned, we were looking at going back to status quo of April 2020, point number one. Thereafter, we will be looking at disengagement, de-escalation and normal management of Line of Actual Control (LAC) will not just stop there.”
